INNOVATIONS IN AUTOMOBILE
GLASS Safe and sound Glass is introduced by PPG. This new glass offers Break-In protection, UV protection, Optical clarity, and Acoustic quieting. Conventional side windows use a single layer of "tempered" glass that is designed to break into small pieces when forcefully struck. PPG has a new laminated design consisting of two thin pieces of strengthened glass with a plastic layer in between. This provides much more resistance to penetration than standard glass or glass with a thin film added to the inside surface. The two glass plies and the plastic layer laminated between them absorb ultraviolet (UV) energy from the sun that causes interior fabrics and other materials to fade or crack. The new glass blocks about 80% of UV energy. Since the window surfaces are glass, you have the same optical clarity you now have with your windshield. You will never see the wrinkles, bubbles, and scratches often found with films that are applied in the aftermarket. Sound levels tests have shown that laminated glass windows block more sound than a standard one-piece side window, giving you a quieter ride.
